Claire Peel

Chief Financial Officer and Regional Head of EMEA at DWS

About

Bio: Claire Peel is DWS's Chief Financial Officer and member of its Executive Board. As CFO, Claire's responsibilities are wide-ranging and encompass the ultimate ownership of DWS's financial information, targets and investor relations, a significant responsibility for a recently-listed organisation. Claire is responsible for ensuring the integrity of the financials, capital & liquidity management, risk, tax reporting and compliance, setting performance targets, strategic planning and driving the timely execution of change in the organisation.

A twenty-year veteran of Deutsche Bank, Claire was the Chief Financial Officer of the Asset Management division of Deutsche Bank prior to her current role. She managed the separation of the division from Deutsche Bank, the creation of DWS as an independent company and its flotation on the Frankfurt stock exchange in March 2018. Claire joined Deutsche Bank on the Graduate Programme in London and has held a number of positions including Chief Financial Officer for the Equities business. Claire holds a first class degree in Economics and is also a Chartered Management Accountant (CIMA).

As Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and as an Executive Board member, Claire sets the tone from the top by making diversity a shared objective among her senior leadership team in the CFO Division. Together, they participate in an internal sponsorship program designed to identify and nurture female talent with a collective aim to help these women expand their networks, create opportunities and develop the skills needed to progress professionally.

Through this program and other forms of internal support, women at DWS now hold more senior positions than ever before, particularly in roles of importance to the company's growth strategy. This is a testament to senior management's commitment to deliver on their gender diversity targets. While Claire is pleased with the progress made to support women at DWS, she is now focused on advancing all aspects of diversity at the firm. This is reflected in her recently expanded role as Head of EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa) in which Claire is working closely with the local leadership team to develop new diversity initiatives that best reflect the people of DWS in the region in which the LGBT+ community plays a key role. DWS already has a strong network of LGBT+ colleagues, but now the firm is focused on connecting allies across regions to ensure that it is cultivating an inclusive and supportive working environment for all colleagues.

Claire's influence also extends beyond DWS to the wider asset management community as an active participant in industry debates, and as a passionate supporter of diversity across the industry.

Claire comments that:

"I am proud to be recognised as one of LGBT Great's Project 1000 Allies. This is an important and much needed campaign to further advance the LGBT+ agenda within our industry but to also recognise the LGBT+ individuals who bring so much value to what we do professionally. Through my role as a senior leader at DWS, I am committed to using my profile to work and learn from other allies in this project and within my firm to ensure that the LGBT+ community feels fully supported and empowered. Now more so than ever, we need greater inclusion in our industry so that we can make better investment decisions that will help support and sustain the diverse societies in which operate."
