Tim Baros

Assistant Vice President at Deutsche Bank

About

Bio: Tim is an AVP at Deutsche Bank and is originally from a small town in the Southwest (U.S.) in America. He moved to NYC in the 1980’s and volunteered thousands of hours with the NYC Gay Pride Committee, was an events volunteer for GLAAD (Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation), and also gave up a lot of his free time volunteering for HIV charities.

Moving to London in 2003 Tim was a co-founder of the ABN AMRO gay group, and has been active in LGBT groups in all of his workplaces. A few years back Tim was a mentor and role model to students at Queen Mary University through the 1 Million Mentors program, and met some dynamic and incredible young minority students.

Tim is currently actively involved in initiatives both at work and in my community. He mentors junior employees at work (some ethnic and minorities) and provide them with guidance and support them with their career goals, offering advice and direction in an organisation that is 90,000 plus strong. Tim encourages them to learn, grow and to expand their network.

Additionally, Tim participate as a judge and mentor in the DB Awards for Creative Entrepreneurs program (dbACE), rewarding creative entrepreneurs (some minorities with limited/no access to funds/guidance) with funds to build and sustain their ventures. Tim helps the applicants with the gruelling application process.

Tim is involved in numerous initiatives at work to help increase visibility for individuals like himself, who identify as both gay and an ethnic minority, and I was recently nominated for a Diversity & Inclusion award at my company. Outside of work, Tim was until recently the Treasurer of Westminster LGBT+ Forum, a voluntary group that works to support the LGBT community, improve services and provisions, and bring the community together through sponsored events. He also volunteers with Diversity Role Models where I speak to students (on zoom) about being LGBT in the workplace.

At work Tim co co-ordinated sessions between junior members of staff and senior managers in an anything goes Q&A format on issues such as diversity in the workplace (lack of representation of minorities at board level), the advancement of women in the workplace, and LGBT visibility.

Tim Comments:
"I am out and proud of who I am, and I want others to be so as well. All of us together can help to make that change. I will be honoured and proud to be accepted as a Project 1000 role model. The extra-curricular / voluntary work that I do with junior ethnic employees at work (mentorship, among other initiatives) and with the LGBT community outside of work is extremely rewarding. I love to offer my insight, guidance, experience and advice to help people grow and learn and to be proud of who they are. I tell them to raise their hand, speak up, be visible and get involved."
