Cameron Cole

Senior Associate, EquiLend Data and Analytics at EquiLend

About

Bio: Cameron joined EquiLend in 2021 as part of the graduate rotation scheme and is now a senior associate on the Data and Analytics team, having relocated to Hong Kong in April 2024. With a First in International Relations B.A. (Hons) from Queen Mary University of London and a Graduate Diploma in Law, Cameron’s journey into data might seem unconventional. However, he comments that the great thing about EquiLend’s rotation program is that it has allowed him to explore different areas of the business, learn new skills and discovered a passion for data-driven insights in the securities lending industry.

As a visible member of the LGBT+ community, Cameron aims to serve as a role model by promoting authenticity in the workplace, highlighting the importance of being yourself in the and not having to hide or cover yourself in fear of judgement. He believes that fostering an inclusive culture isn’t down to one particular event/initiative, but requires ongoing efforts, ensuring that everyone, regardless of their background, feels welcome. Cameron has played a key role in corporate social responsibility efforts at EquiLend from organizing charity pub quizzes to participating in several fundraising runs. In 2023, Cameron played a key role in setting up the ESG committee, working closely with the Charity and DEI committees to raise awareness of intersectional ESG issues and environmental causes. His leadership on the annual Pride quiz, which supports LGBT charities, highlights his commitment to advocating for underrepresented communities.

Cameron is proud to work in an environment where diversity is embraced and celebrated. Reflecting on his own experience, he recognizes how impactful visible role models can be for younger generations. He adds, “It’s easy to overlook LGBT representation and role models but, growing up, I think greater representation would’ve made a real difference in my perception of a number of things, including working in finance.” His recognition as one of LGBT Great’s Top 100 Game Changers is not only a personal milestone but also an opportunity to inspire others and challenge perceptions of what it means to work in finance.
