Steven Friel
CEO at Woodsford
About
Bio: Steven Friel is Chief Executive Officer at Woodsford, a legal finance business with a growing specialism in ESG-related engagement and litigation.
Through the Public Interest Advocacy Centre, Woodsford helped support advocacy for equal marriage in Australia, and is a supporter of the New York Legal Aid Group, which campaigns on LGBT+ issues in the U.S., and the UK Access to Justice Foundation.
Steven and his husband Scott are the proud fathers of an 11 year old son and 9 year old daughter. Steven co-founded the P3 Network in 2014. P3 is a parenting support network for LGBT+ City professionals in over 80 UK multinationals and the civil service. By 2020, with backing from banks, law firms and other professional services providers across the City, P3 had supported over 3500 families and prospective families.
Steven is Chair of the Cambridge University LGBT+ Alumni Association. The Association's patron is Lord Chris Smith, who in 1984 was the first openly gay male MP at Westminster, and in 1997 became the first openly gay cabinet minister. Steven is a supporter of Cambridge's initiative to promote research, outreach and networking related to queer, trans and sexuality studies.
Steven was shortlisted for the Inspirational Leader Award (sponsored by PwC) in the 2020 British LGBT Awards (sponsored by NatWest).
Steven comments:
"Role models are important for all of us, no matter our age, position or stage of life. Role models are particularly important for those of us who belong to an under-represented group. I am delighted to be part of an initiative that highlights the many brilliant LGBT+ people leading the way in the City and in our communities."
