Matt Phillips
Head of Audit Market Monitoring at Financial Reporting Council
About
Bio: Matt is a qualified accountant with over 20 years of experience working in the financial services industry throughout the UK and Australia. He is an audit, assurance and risk specialist with experience in the banking, insurance and pensions sectors. Matt thrives in audit and risk roles because he loves to communicate with people at all levels and has a “hands-on” approach to getting things done. He particularly enjoys fostering internal talent and managing complex projects.
Matt joined the Financial Reporting Council in 2019. In early 2021, he became co-chair of the FRC’s PRIDE network make inclusive, happy, and fun. Matt joined the FRC Pride network soon after joining the FRC as a Project Director in June 2019, with the aim of making the FRC an inclusive, happy and fun workplace. In his role as Co-Chair, Matt has been instrumental in re-designing and transforming the group from an informal employee working group to a fully-fledged employee network. Together with the Head of Diversity and Inclusion, Matt has championed intersectional minorities, and has worked alongside his fellow Co-Chair Chris Nelson to sensitively capture reliable diversity data so we have a closer understanding of the aggregate diversity makeup people who we can represent at the FRC.
He previously helped set up the Pride Network at The Royal Bank of Scotland and represented the RBS Group at “Interbank” - The Financial Services LGBT Forum. Matt holds several volunteer positions with arts organisations, and he loves the performing arts, travelling and nature.

I am proud to be a Project 1000 role model because I feel I can connect with people across all levels of diversity and backgrounds, and I am passionate about helping people at an individual and collective level.
